THE CHANGE
When you hear the phrase nomadic lifestyle, a couple of scenes will float in front of your eyes. The most common one (still today) might be of a gypsy caravan with fancy dressed men, women and children swarming around it. Then if you have a bit more idea you will visualize anything from green pastures to barren lands, livestock, tents, and rootless people. |
Fine then, let’s try to visualize a new one. Take for example a technocrat or a corporate executive, who is covering about 3-4 cities in a single week for business meetings. By now he/she is more familiar with the name of hotel staffs than his own neighbors. He/She survives on RSS feeds, always checks-in in advance, relies more on his pocket laptop than on the air liners for entertainment, travels light and to top it all enjoys his being constantly on the move. Welcome to the world of the modern Nomads, and get used to the term ‘nomadic lifestyle’ being used for them.
You might find the above mentioned scenes contrasting but a common ground is ‘survival’.
TODAY’S WORLD OF NOMADS
Traveling around the globe for basic endurance, man has come a long way in defining and redefining the intriguing life of nomads. People these days are not only forced to live a life like this but are opting for one. Rather than spending 9-10 hours a day in front of a 14 inch world and a single chair, people are opting for telecommuting jobs where they work through internet/telecom from exotic locations.
One thing is common however, the undying human thirst for travel, for adventure, for exploring the unseen.
Nevertheless, communication matters these days. A Hundred years back people didn’t care for what happened elsewhere. Now people want to know. And stay connected.
A PASSING THOUGHT
The dreamy life where human beings constantly evolved, taking in the culture they touched and creating an exclusive one of their own, is gone however. These high flying Nomads are mostly single these days. The idea of traveling with your family and then enlarging into a group is not what one thrives for. People want solitude. A kind of pseudo nomad, who wants to lead a different life while flowing with the mainstream.
