Women in Asia have been the downtrodden and exploited section of the society since centuries. This has played an important role in suppressing the voice of women and preventing the women’s lifestyle from developing. Comparatively, the life led by urban women is a lot better than rural women’s lifestyle. Rural women’s lifestyle:
Since ages, women in the rural areas have been under-estimated than their male counterparts and ignored. This has bereaved them from having a properly constructed lifestyle. They suffer from poverty, hunger and illiteracy to a great extent apart from being burdened with all the major responsibilities of the family. They have always been restricted to the household chores and never bestowed with even the powers to decide on her future course of life. Participation of women in family discussions and making decisions are limited. Women workers are looked upon as ‘invisible work f’. Due to lack of enlightenment, the rural women are monetarily exploited. As their voices are suppressed, they are bereft from due credit for their hard work. Lack of education, inequality, dependency, deficiency of food, poor health and so forth has barely allowed the women’s lifestyle to improve. By and large, the rural women have not yet experienced the taste of ‘modern life’. This is the sorrow-stricken condition of the women of the developing countries of Asia.
Urban women’s lifestyle:
The socio-economic condition of the urban areas being sound, it helped to improve the status of urban women. Proper education, liberty, equality, good professional prospect have enhanced women’s lifestyle in the urban countries. Household chores are not destined and categorized to be a women’s work. Higher education elevated the status of the women to a great deal and made them independent in the social and professional domain. People believe in equality and decisions can be taken by either of the gender. Today, time for women is as precious as for men. Women’s lifestyle in the urban areas is influenced by the modern trends prevailing in and around the society.
It has been agreed that, given the chance to develop, women can also contribute a great deal in the progress and prosperity of the rural areas. However, the present scenario shows that women are shifting their base from rural regions to urbanized cities to acquire a suitable position and improve their lifestyle.
