Traditional family lifestyle
Lifestyle, in terms of fashion, family, and sport and so on, has always differed on grounds of values, cultures, behaviors and choices. Since decades, nucleated family consisting of parents and their children has prevailed in West. Whereas in many countries, to enhance the family bond, extended and joint families were predominant. Sense of security, togetherness, moral principles and economic and social conditions made people stick to their families. Barring being an integral part of the family, children were also looked upon as an extra earning member due to lack of education and poor economic conditions. However, the only common feature among the nations was that all the societies were by and large patriarchal.
Recent trends in the family lifestyle
With the influx of modernization and industrialization there have been numerous changes in the family lifestyle. Today, the patriarchal ideology has almost been eliminated. High cost of living, modern ideologies and changes in the social and economic conditions have brought about changes in the structure of families. Children have learned to leave their parents at an early stage and lead an independent life. Monetary needs have largely taken over the family ties and hence spending leisure time with family members has become quite uncommon. This has further lessened the number of children borne by a woman.
With development, modernization has brought in high rate of divorce, degradation of values and erosion of the bond among the family members. In the years to come the present scenario will change further and result in smaller societies.
