Saunas were first built in Finland. However, there is evidence that China also had them built around 5th century B.C. Saunas are built in small or large rooms to undergo wet or dry heating sessions. This helps in physical relaxation and achieving fitness equal to that from any kind of metabolic activity. Today, almost every spa has an inbuilt sauna room. As part of many innovative grooming techniques, spas have incorporated the concept of sauna in itself.

Saunas generally have a very soothing effect on your body, but unequal or extremely high temperature settings can lead to severe effects like hypothermia, high blood pressure and heat exhaustion. One should also abstain from taking a cold shower or swimming right after a sauna session. It is advisable to take sauna session under expert guidance if you are visiting a spa.
