Situated in Southwest Asia, Iran is a beautiful country covered by mountains. Iran’s rich culture and heritage is proudly exhibited in the lifestyle of her people. Iranian culture and lifestyle is epitomized by their warm behavior, food and dress. Iranians belong to different ethnic background which has added to the richness of their culture. An unstable political past has not affected the kind demeanor of this happy bunch of people. Owing to the intrusion of western influences, Iranian culture and lifestyle have undergone minor changes. |
Iranian way of life still today is largely affected by centuries old customs and traditions. Islamic conquest in the 7th century could hardly affect the Iranian cultures and lifestyles. Islam influences Iranian society to a large extent today. Yet, the ethnic backgrounds form the base of Iranian culture. Islam and modernity have made their vital inputs into their beautiful ways and mannerisms.
Iranians are well known for their hospitality. In addition to strong family ties, entertaining friends and guests on a regular basis is normal for any Iranian family. However, owing to the rapid pace of life in urban areas this feeling of togetherness has been deeply affected. Because of the revolution in 1979 Iranian society today is marked by Islamic conservatism. Both men and women follow strict dress codes. Women are required to dress modestly and cover their heads, while men are required to wear full sleeve shirts and trousers.
Food forms a basic identity of Iranian culture and lifestyle. Guests in Iran are served with Tea and dry fruits. Lunch and dinner consists of steamed or flavored rice, accompanied by meat stews and kebabs. Iranian cooking is very spicy and flavored. Vegetables and seasonal fruits are also served with each meal. Fruit juices and different types of sorbets are also consumed.
Entertainment and social life is mostly restricted to home. As a result of the 1979 revolutions many pubs, nightclubs and other entertainment zones were closed. Home entertainment since then has risen in popularity. Weddings and festivities are celebrated with joy and passion across the country. Iranian culture and lifestyle thus forms a beautiful mosaic of tradition, beauty and modernity.
