It’s easier to understand and analyze the Asian fashion lifestyle by categorizing it into South, Southeast and Western Asia. Let’s have a look at the fashion and style of Asia separately.
Southern Asia: It predominantly consists of India, Bangladesh and Pakistan. The former country has varied traditional outfits which vary widely from one region to another due to the climatic conditions. For both the genders, casual and formal dresses are altogether different. For ladies sari, salwar kameez and dupatta, lehenga, burqa and for men dhoti and kurta, sherwani, jeans, shirt and trouser, headdress and lungi are encountered largely in all the three countries. Today, fashion in these countries is booming rapidly and creative attires and accessories are seen in the cosmopolitan cities.
Southeast Asia: This arena of Asia comprises of almost forty different ethnic groups. Fashion defers from one group to another. Southeast Asia’s clothing is basically variations of the draped costume. Among men trouser is common whereas among women it varies from long parallel skirts to trousers and sleeveless waistcoats. Traditional apparels, headgears and accessories prevail in Southeast Asia and to a certain degree they are influenced by the Chinese fashion trends.
Western Asia: The fashion of Western Asia can easily be analyzed by looking at China, Japan and Korea. The economic condition and the culture have a notable influence on Chinese apparels. However, in places Western look and formal dress are opted. Unlike Chinese, Japanese and Koreans have specific traditional costumes called ‘Kimono’ and ‘Hanbok’ respectively. These are worn by both the sex and speak about their social status and occasion. Traditional jewelries and accessories also segregate them from the general crowd.
Recently, Asian fashion lifestyle is greatly influenced by the Western fashion trends. In addition, the traditional attires of Asians are vanishing gradually due to the influx of Western and International culture and lifestyle.
