People of foreign origin or recent immigrants try to hold on to their native customs, but gradually or in the next generation things melt and mix. Children stay with parents till about high school after which they move out and start living on their own. Self- sufficiency or self- dependency and above all individuality are highly respected in America. Even to such an extent that Rights and Laws have been implemented to preserve individual freedom.
Lifestyle in American homes above all is very basic. Unlike European or Asian countries there are very few celebrations or festivities when the entire family gathers. Professional life gets primary importance above anything else. Lifestyle also differs in cities. The major cities of America have different characteristics in terms of cost of living, lifestyle in general, society etc. This also affects the lifestyle of an average American family. The consumerist nature of American family also impacts living trends. Given a fast-paced lifestyle people depend a lot on the supermarkets where you can get anything and everything under the sun, made for you to save precious time.
