Starting from the outer space of your home, if you live in the ground floor and have ample space for gardening then use it too the maximum. In ancient Chinese beliefs a house surrounded by big trees and bushes is said to be a protecting factor against ill luck or harmful forces.
One should however keep the path leading to the entrance of a house clear of any plants or shrubs. Your entrance door should be clearly visible to ensure smooth flow of chi.
Inside your home, the living room is a place where you should place flowers or small plants to create harmony and invite good fortune.
Thorny shrubs or plants like cactus should be planted in the outer spheres of a house. This will repel the harmful energies. One should not however keep them inside or very near to the house. The effect will be opposite in that case.
Bonsai plants might look good but should be avoided as they slow down your normal growth or development in terms of career or general well being.
You should also keep plants in your work place to help your professional life.
Flowers bring luck and happiness. They are also coherent with the colors of the ba gua. Keep them in your living room.
One should however remove dead or dry plants as soon as possible.
Plants with soft edged or blunt leaves are more effective than sharp ones.

Use of artificial plants is also recommended if you are not suited to the natural ones.
