Chinese Feng Shui
An ancient Chinese tradition, now a modern lifestyle tool, Feng Shui has come a long way in affecting people’s lives. Some call it a study of art and science, while others see it as a philosophy. The basic explanation however remains the same. Feng Shui was designed about five thousand years ago to protect people from natural calamities rising out of wind and water. The two terms ‘Feng’ and ‘Shui’ refer to the same. Over the years this concept has evolved and assimilated various ‘powers’ of nature, which directly affects our well being.
Every object surrounding us is said to have a vital force which when comes into contact with ‘Chi’ or universal energy produces positive/negative effects. The purpose of Feng Shui is to produce harmony among these conflicting forces which will be beneficial for us.

The modern Chinese Feng Shui has certain essential concepts, which you need to know before hand.

Concept of the Ba- Gua,
The ba gua is a very useful instrument in designing Feng Shui for your home and office. It is an octagonal diagram depicting the eight directions: north, south, east, and west, northeast, southeast, northwest and, south west. Every direction is associated with the vital elements of life, namely, water, wood, earth, metal and fire. In combination these elements affect certain common goals of human life. The centre of the diagram is occupied by the universal element earth, which is said to be in concordance with all the directions and elements.

The Ba Gua diagram created during Confucius’s time has made Feng Shui application easy.

The Five Schools of Feng Shui:

1) The Form School: Oldest school in the block, its main purpose was to determine the best possible ways of survival against the harmful powers of wind and water. Its use however differed from village to village.

2) The Compass School: This school has specialized in analyzing the linkages between the various bands of constellations, mountains and the directions.

3) The Flying star School: One of the old schools studying space, time and form. Has modified its studies into numerology to become result oriented.

4) The Black Sect School: A very recent one, this school opened branches of feng shui in astrology, horoscopes and energy or energies. It has gained maximum popularity in the west.

5) The Cassical Feng Shui School: Most popular in Asia. This school is an assorted product of the old schools namely, Form, compass and flying star schools.
